Licking dog behavior
My dog has this 'spot' that wants to lick all the time. Basically, I wore shorts a couple of weeks ago and he thought it was good and started licking my right knee and then a little behind him when the leg is flexed. He was there for a good 15 minutes. Anyway, since then, if I'm out there, will try to find the exact spot by grabbing his pants with his teeth and trying to resolve to pull up to get to that point. You can not really do so only licks that location on my pants instead. I do not really care what lame here as it was very therapeutic, but do you think that behavior is harmful and that I should be discouraged or let him lick away. After talking with others on the web, I found the answer. My dog does the same. This is a basic behavior of WC. Your dog thinks of you as part of their package, and a dog they do is help to keep each other. Behind the knee tends to be a sweaty place, and since your dog has learned, he is trying to help keep clean. I do not think it's harmful, but it is annoying (whether you, or if you start doing this to others) you may want to discourage it.
