Bad Behavior In Cats
So my cat has some bad behavior. He always eats house plants and goes on the kitchen counter tops for things to eat. He is not allowed, and every time I catch him in the act, I yell at him. But I think this only makes him do it when I am not around. So what am I suppose to do to make him stop going on the counter top at all, and stop eating the plants? The reason I don't like him eating house plants is that he's an old cat and can't digest it so he always vomits when he does eat it. I was so glad to find this — When it comes to dealing with bad behaviors, I'd rather nip the rose in the bud so to speak. Since it sounds like your cat goes on the counters to eat, that's where I would aim. What I would do is either buy Bitter Apple, or a few drops of tea tree oil mixed with water in a spray bottle. Both of these have a really bad taste (believe me, I accidently tasted it and it's disgusting) and you can use it to spray on houseplants, or anything that you don't want the cat to chew on. For a while until you can trust your cat, I would try to keep any food out of your cat's reach or in a container, at least. However, I would leave samples of foods out that has been sprayed with bitter apple, for the cat. I would imagine that if you do this consistently, your cat may start thinking that human food sucks or no longer tastes good, that going on the counter is a waste of time as well. It's kind of making what your cat thinks is positive, into a negative. Negative reinforcement has a much more powerful effect than positive, so you want to aim for that result. There's another product that you can buy that is called Sca-aat or words to that effect. Its a canister that is filled with air, topped with a motion detector. Whats good about it is that you can leave it on the counter and it will take care of the rest, regardless of whether you're home or not. If your cat jumps on the counter and activates the motion detector, the canister will beep then emit a sharp blast of air. The downsides to it is that replacing the canister may be expensive, and it can only cover a certain portion of surface. If you have a small counter or your cat only goes to one area of the counters, this may be a good solution for you. If not, then I would suggest to go with the bitter apple solution. Your cat wants to eat houseplants because grass, for example, helps aid in digestion. To compromise with your cat, you can buy cat grass or grow your own. You can find these in most pet supply stores. Good luck and hope this helps.

Dogs Behavior Problems
I want to know how you are supposed to correct bad behavior of a puppy. I know lots of people just shout BAD DOG. But that's not very effective. What's a good way to correct bad behavior like an accident in the house, play biting, chewing furniture, etc. ? Thanks for the help. I was so glad to find this — A stern "No." is usually enough to get them to stop momentarily, then show them what you want them to do. For example, if you find the dog peeing in the house, a stern "no." and then immediately take the dog outside to finish. Then treat & praise when the dog finishes outside. If you find them chewing furniture or play biting, "no." and then introduce a toy they can chew on. Sometimes with playing they get overexcited and it's best to just walk away and let them chill out for a couple of minutes, but first try to re-direct their teeth to a toy.
