Changing the dog's behavior
We have been to the vet, who has been on drugs, we have tried a kennel, chains, everything. He has separation anxiety and he escapes and destroys covering doors and windows and tires and the car and the sides of car, etc.. . . We have tried behavior modification techniques and nothing works. Hes a 100 kilo Shepard. When we have to go somewhere and have to stay at home I have to go with the fear that they will escape from its cage and destroy my house. I have screens on the floor at the pound and a roof over it. He leaned over and actuallt destoyed the links in the chain without yesturday and when proceeded to break the glass screen door slides out of the house and remove the lining around the door. I love my dog, but I'm afraid I've tried everything to control this, spent hundreds of dollars in medicine and veterinary, etc and training and fencing. . . I fear that maybe I'll have to find someone who can be with him all the time or put it down. . . . Just can not take it anymore. Basically … I seem to have worked very hard to help. Sometimes there are problems that require professionals to diagnose and treat, and this sounds like one. If you did not get the dog until he was older then maybe there were some problems in his puppy stage that created all this anxiety. If it were my dog, I would seek professional help from a dog trainer or I put you with someone who knows what their problem and are willing to spend all the hours needed to work with him. Putting it down would be a last resort, obviously, having tried the other two. There are people out there who would be willing to work with, but you can not let your life be destroyed by an animal. We have several pets yahooers coach who can help. Check the Internet for some local lists of trainers and behavior modification specialists in your area or to local veterinarians for recommendations. If you do not have the money to pay for it, try asking some of its premises without killing shelters for recommendations or ask if they would take the dog to see if you can help. There are many programs (programs for prisoners, for example) where animals are taken and trained, so maybe you can find something for him. Good luck.

Canine Separation Anxiety
I need recommendations from anyone who has successfully treated their pet with S. A. If euthanization was your only alternative, please do not respond. Dear Dog Trainer – Thanks so much for your detailed info. I should have been more detailed, myself. This is a mature dog. DOB:08/01/98. She was successfully treated for S. A. Years ago in California. I've been following all instr. You've provided. I'm now looking for option meds to take the "edge" off. Unfortunately, we live in Texas where their famed Southern Hospitality is NOT extended to Pitbulls and I can't seem to get much support from our vet. I'm desparate to save her from herself with little to no support. I want to try an anti-anxiety med to calm her without making her loopy. Kimber – That is an excellent idea. I've used Rescue in the past to calm my kittens relocation fears. I will try it and thank you. Basically… Use Rescue Remedy. I used it for my cat when he'd to travel 3. 5 hours one way to get chemo. Put a little on his/her nose and they will relax. A friend uses it for his dog when they travel 8 plus hours home to visit his parents.
Most dogs hate to be alone or separated from thier pack. In this case the dog's owner had come inside the house but the dog was left on the porch. This anxious dog's efforts to be reunited with his pack member are recorded here. (Hunter Desportes, 6 December 2006)

Dog Training Problems
I am planning on getting a dog soon. this will not be my first dog, but it will be my dog that requires training. any adive on how to house break and any other training would be really helpful. thanks. Well, I have your answer. The individual who thinks it is a good idea to shove a dogs nose in his waste is WRONG. Although this may work over time it is NOT the most effective way to house train a dog. Also, terriers are not going to take longer to train. That is a general assumption that is in no way true. I have 4 mastiffs and 2 terriers. I am also an active dog trainer. I have worked with several breeds of dogs that all train on different levels. As it may be assumed that bully breeds are harder to train, its just not true. All dogs have brains and need training to their specific situations. It is that simple. Quick thought on house training: Dogs that are not house broken should not be on teir own in the home. They should not roam free and that is the owners responsibility. Your dog should be a general down stay position where he or she cannot use the bathroom. Tell me the last time you saw a dog laying down use the bathroom. Learn their/ create their outside bathroom schedule. Know the basic times and when that time is approaching you make sure you have that dog at your side. Positive reinforcement is a great thing after they handle their business outside. A simple bathroom command should be enforced(hurry up), after they make you praise and return to the home. NEVER PUT THEIR FACE IN IT AND SCREAM AT THEM. Thanks for reading, ALPHA Dog Training Team alphadogtrainingteam@gmail. Com
